Italy light welterweight title
Renato De Donato 12(1)-1 vs. Andrea Scarpa 10(5)-2
This is a cracking domestic-level fight that demonstrates much that Italy has to offer.
Donato is making his 3rd defense of his Italy title. When he first tried to win the title, he lost to Samuele Esposito, but since then he’s won 5 straight. So the question is: will De Donato eventually outgrow domestic level?
This is a hard question to answer because De Donato doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of power. In fact, it was shocking that he was able to win by TKO6 in his last fight. Seeing how De Donato only has an 8% KO ratio, he’ll probably need to be that much more skillful should he move to world level.
But perhaps we’re looking too far ahead here. Scarpa is now slouch.
He’s actually getting progressively better with time. Scarpa began his career in 2011 — fighting 5 times that year, and 6 times in 2012. Though he’s lost 2 of his first 3 fights, thenceforth he’s been all about winning. He’s actually on a 9 fight win streak with his last 3 fights won by KO.
Scarpa, therefore, is a real live dog.
Prediction: De Donato by UD.
