NABF flyweight title
Armando Santos 11(7)-3 vs. Roilo Gomez 14(5)-10-1
Not a very good fight, but it’s the main event. Gomez is moving up two weight classes, and he’s 2-3-1 in his last 6 fights. Santos is on a 2 fight KO streak.
Vacant WBC International Silver minimumweight title
Ganigan Lopez 22(15)-5 vs. Mateo Handig 13(7)-5
Good fight for the minimumweight division, and I wonder why this isn’t the main event instead.
Lopez has won 9 of his last 10 fights. His lone loss was to Denver Cuello, but he’s won against the likes Luis Ceja, Omar Rosales, and Omar Soto. Mostly impressively, Lopez is coming off a TKO3 victory.
Handig is a lot better than his record implies. 4 of his loss occurred in this first 6 fights of his career. From then on, he’s won 11 of his last 12 fights — although his loss to Donny Mabao is concerning. On the other hand, Handig has a win against current IBF minimumweight titlist Katsunari Takayama which shows he can compete just fine at the world level.
The winner of this fight should rocket up the minimumweight rankings and give either fighter a shot at a title.
