Roberto Ortiz

Television: Televisa (Mexico)

WBC Silver light welterweight title
12 Rounds

Roberto Ortiz 29(23)-0-1 vs. Reyes Sanchez 24(14)-5-2

Ortiz is a good prospect but frankly he’s beyond this level right now. Sanchez has no business being in the ring with Ortiz.

Prediction: Ortiz by KO3.

WBC International Silver super flyweight title
10 Rounds

Ivan Morales 22(13)-0 vs. Cesar Javier Gandara 22(9)-3

It’s so hard to gauge this fight.

Morales is a very good prospect who has wins over Alejandro Morales, Ernesto Guerrero, Luis Maldonado, and Javier Franco. Unfortunately for him, there’s lots of super flyweight talent in Mexico — and it’s hard to stand out.

On top of that, Morales doesn’t really fight in a style that appeals to most Mexicans. He’s the kind of man who waits for others to bring the fight — wherein he tries to makes them pay with counters. But even so, his power is lacking.

Gandara looks to me like a career journeyman but he’s on a 4 fight win streak, and is 5-1 in his last 6 fights. I’m not sure Gandara is on Morales level. Then again, I’m not convinced about Morales as a prospect either.

One concern I have about Gandara is his chin. 2 of his 3 losses have occurred by KO.

Prediction: Morales by UD.
