There needs to be more American domestic showdowns. As it happens, most Americans spend their careers fighting journeymen before being thrown to the wolves. Hence, this match-up comes as a pleasant surprise.

As implied by the poster, Brinson is the hometown hero. Since losing to Lennox Allen by TKO7 back in 2010, Brinson is now undefeated in 9 fights. His two best wins during that time have come against Markus Williams and Jorge Melendez.

While Brinson does not have exceptional power, he fights well on his toes and displays exceptional defence. With deft footwork, Brinson uses distance to avoid opponents’ shots while firing his piston-like jab.

Chatman is no joke. As it stands, he’s handed 4 fighters their first losses. Against Charles Hatley, who previously had a perfect record, Chatman rose from the canvas in Round 1, out hustled Hatley, and scored a knockdown in the 8th and final round — forcing a draw.

The only two losses on Chatman’s record come against elite prospects Jermell Charlo and Demetrius Andrade. It should be assumed, therefore, that Chatman only loses to quality opponents.

Could Brinson be a world contender? Or does the buck stop at Chatman?

Prediction: Brinson by UD.
